Help with JB-8 brake caliper rattle

I converted the brakes and spindles on my 71C20 to the newer 73-87 style and in doing so wound up with the JB-8 calipers that as you may know use a wedge system with a little spring that looks like a tiny leaf spring to hold it on the spindle instead of the two threaded pins like on your typical gm brake setup . The problem is this ,when your driving down a bumpy road the calipers rattle around and sound like the front end is falling out of the truck. Brakes work great but sound like crap. Anybody familiar with this condition and know what if any is the solution to that. Can't believe I'm the only one who has experienced this. Calipers pads and hardware are all new.

Re: Help with JB-8 brake caliper rattle

It's more than likely not the caliper but the brake pad itself

Re: Help with JB-8 brake caliper rattle

Is the wedge nice and tight , I had few problem with the new spring retainers being soft and letting the movement of the wedge.

Re: Help with JB-8 brake caliper rattle

I had a similar issue with the calipers on my D60. I believe it was the inner brake pads that would rattle when not in use. Come to find that I was missing a small metal clip that attaches to the brake pad and prevents it from rattling. I thought I had a picture of the clip to post here, but I can't find it anywhere. The clips are available through any auto parts store.

Re: Help with JB-8 brake caliper rattle

I looked at it a bit this morning and the drivers side caliper definitely has play I can reach around the tire and move it it forward and back and hear the noise at a much lower and slower level than when it's driving. I thought it was both but the passengers side seems tight. I had an 87 van box truck that used to do the same thing which made me hesitate to want to use these brakes on this truck . the calipers are remanafactured ,do you thing they or at any rate this one could just be worn where it slides? Or maybe the bracket on the spindle?
