Weatherstripping adhesive for drip rails?

I'm about to install some salvaged drip rails I got from the pick and pull. I'm wondering if it's okay to use 3M weatherstrip adhesive in between the body and the drip rail? Most drip rails I've removed seem to have a black sticky adhesive between it and the body of the truck. Will it suffice?

That's what I used, I also put silicone around the holes I drilled so water doesn't come in.

Re: Weatherstripping adhesive for drip rails?

I used 3m 2-sided emblem tape. I found a roll that matched the width. Also sealant on the screws.

Re: Weatherstripping adhesive for drip rails?

The tape is a good idea. I am installing drip rails right now and I drilled the mount holes bigger and used nutserts and stainless button head screws in mine to keep the screws from dripping ugly rust.
