What to look for when buying 67-72 c10 with LQ9(6.0) swap?

Need help I am looking at buying a 72 c10 swb with a already converted 04 Escalade engine/trans installed. What are some things to look for to make sure install was done correctly? Wiring? etc..

Bring along a generic OBD scanner and see if it has any codes. This will be an indication of how well the swap was done from a programming and wiring standpoint.

Re: What to look for when buying 67-72 c10 with LQ9(6.0) swap?

The only way I would consider it for purchase is if that motor looks the business and I can show beyond doubt that it is as advertised. If they simply took a 100k+ mile drivetrane from the junk yard and stuffed it into the truck for quick sale, then it's likely not worth your time or money.

Go in assuming that it is a 5.3 liter vortec with a 4l60 tranny with 400k miles. Then go about disproving that by finding the correct markings on the engine block ( should be a 6.0 stamped into the block if it is a 6L ), digging into the OBD computer data, finding the case marks on the tranny/rear end and just in general researching how to identify the LQ9 positively as well as determine whether the tranny belongs with that engine.

Examine the frame rails under the hood to make sure no cutting was done to stuff that engine in there.

Then fire that thing up and put your hands on it. It shouldn't feel like it is laboring to idle, missing or doing anything but purring nice and smooth.

Your OBD scanner will tell you whether the codes have been recently reset, which would require a certain amount of driving be done before you can determine if there are any new codes. So you may need to drive it 50 or 100 miles to get the computer to reassess trouble codes from the various components/sensors.

Like weq92f said check that the frame hasn't been hacked to fit the manifolds or AC pump. If done right there is no need to hack the frame.

Take it out for a test drive as well. That will tell you a lot.

If it's a Escalade it should be all aluminum engine. No steel! The motor will have the 6.0 stamp on it also as stated.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
