Th 350 wont kickdown

Just picked up a 1970 gmc jimmy 350 w/ 350 turbo trans. Original owner is deceased and I bought it from his grandkid from across the country. Believe there is a shift kit (unk what) would have to dig through a ton of receipts and there is a new edelbrock 1806 on it. Took it around town and all was good...idled high but I adjusted the throttle stop so all was good. Decided to stretch its legs and once in high gear it just started going has to drive home with the damn brakes on. Would not and still wont kickdown. Ive lubed the kickdown cable and tried to start it again but it runs like a raped ape! Any suggestions?

If it will not kick down most likely the detent cable is not adjusted correctly. Start there first. Adjust cable and than try to see if it will kick down from 3rd to 2nd...2nd to first....

I think this is part of my problem. Shouldnt there be a nut pr something to tighten down on the side of the carb? On the edelbrock theee is just a ball thay the cable slips over (previous owner did it) so there is slop.

Re: Th 350 wont kickdown

Ok....think I figured it out....feel stupid. I think all this was a result of an extra long cotter pin the previous owner had used to attach the throttle rod to the side of the carb. When I accelerated to a certain point the cotter pin hung up and wouldnt allow the throttle to return all the way. Still has a couple easy issues but this one has been fixed.
