Headlight Trim Paint

On the '72 Longhorn I'm fixing up, it looks like the trim around the headlight bezel was painted black. On my parts truck, it doesn't appear to be painted. Was the paint somebody's alteration, or did they come that way?

Re: Headlight Trim Paint

The paint is original. I just re-did mine on my 72 K5 Blazer. Installed a nos inter grill some nos headlight bezels and a nos bow tie. I painted it on the truck so I had to mask everything off really good . Have fun, a1

Re: Headlight Trim Paint

I use low gloss black engine paint. It's tough and is the right sheen.

Re: Headlight Trim Paint

Try VHT caliper paint or roll bar and chassis paint. I used that on my motorcycle and the stuff is pretty tough.

Re: Headlight Trim Paint

It was my understanding that 71 had black trim and 72 had chrome? could be wrong though!

I have had 3 all original 72's and all had paint around the chrome headlight buckets. If anybody would know it would be JoesJunk he is into low mile originals like nobody else.

Re: Headlight Trim Paint

X2. On 72s having black paint. I've used the VHT roll bar paint also and it works great. Really lays down good and is very tuff.

Re: Headlight Trim Paint

'71 had accent paint on surround. '72 didn't. 69-72 had accent around the headlights

Ahh thats where my confusion was, the whole "egg crate" has a black trim surround on the 71, as well as the headlight bezel surrounds where as 72 only had the bezel surrounds black. Thanks for the edumacation!

Re: Headlight Trim Paint

Regardless of grille insert, 69-72 all had the same black headlight surround as depicted above. 71 also had the perimeter surround.

Re: Headlight Trim Paint

I also used VHT roll bar and chassis on my grill, perfect sheen and sprays really well. You can pick it up at any parts store. SEM trim paint is also very good but I like the VHT and use it for lots of little parts.
