Fan Removal

I am trying to come up with a clever way to remove the fan for the swap without having to put the accessory drive on to c-clamp the belt. Any ideas on this?

Is it fairly easy to slide the motor in with the fan/clutch left on?

If you have a strap wrench thatll fit the pulley ,that would work....
As far as installing with the fan on it just depends on how much of the front end is on the truck...if it's all still intact itd be easier to do without the fan in the way....

I use a screwdriver / prybar wedged between a securing nut and the pulley to keep the pulley from turning while I use a wrench on the other nuts to loosen them.

As easy as it is to pull the fan, I wouldn't want to risk bending a blade while hanging a motor over the core support.

hammer and chisel or large punch, smack the edge of one of the sides of what would be the large nut. i've done it over a hundred times

This worked good for me as well , but I used a air chisel . That thing flew off . No need to strap it down .

i only offered the solution of hammer and punch because i didnt assume everyone would have an air hammer, but that definitely works although by the time i get the air hammer out i could have smacked it with a hammer and punch, if it doesnt budge because some genius had to try and torque it down ill get the air chisel out.

for anyone interested most of the tool trucks sell a fan tool that goes on the end of an ait hammer, they work well if you dont mind spending the coin or are worried about taking a punch or air hammer to the fan nut.

Ahhh, the big nut version of what BMW does. Tell me, is that a righty-tighty nut, or a reverse thread, smack it on the wrong side of the fastener to loosen it kind of thing?
