Weird junkyard finds, steering stablizer

Saw this 1976 c20 in the yard today and it had some hillbilly mods to it like the anti start switch in the front fender. What really caught my eye was the steering stabilizer setup. What do y’all think of this setup? Would it actually work? And did he put it on a manual steer truck?

as long as the stabilizer is mounted to a static point ( frame) and also the steering it WILL work. how effectively depends on location and angles.

it may induce some noticeable drag on a manual system, but WHAT it does will be the same.

It runs frame mount next to the gear box, parallel the drag link where it is attached. I am thinking about grabbing it for my 70 c20.

That key is the alarm. I have that one my 70 C20, and my Cousin has one on his 74 vette. That is how they did alarms before you had small remotes. Mine was working up until about 2 years ago when I started taking it apart. The key is the on/off switch, there are triggers on the doors and hood. Would be easy to hook it up to a relay to kill the starter.

Re: Weird junkyard finds, steering stablizer

There's nothing weird about a steering stabilizer . We used a lot on 4x4 snow plow trucks and 4x4s out on the wood lot . it's not worth the time to pull an old rusted one out of the junkyard when you can buy a brand new one for $59.95 or less .

Steering stabilizers are designed to restrain "bump steering" and front end vibration, giving added life to tires, ball joints, and other steering components and are highly recommended for vehicles running aftermarket tires. The durable 18mm chrome hardened piston rod and large-bodied cylinder dwarfs factory equipment, ensuring a more effective vibration damping each and every time you take to the trails. Rough Country's N3 Steering Stabilizer kit is easy to install, with a 100% bolt-on installation process that can be installed in a home garage with common tools.
