Motor Mount Upgrade

70 C20 with a 350. Because I have the rod type accelerator linkage, if the motor mount breaks the throttle gets pulled open as the engine lifts. Is it possible to update the motor mounts to the newer clam shell type for safety?

Re: Motor Mount Upgrade

There are mounts with a safety brackets built in. This was a huge recall back in the day. The dealers installed a cable that hooked to the a-arm shaft to keep the engine from lifting up. The engine mounts after that had the built in brackets.

Re: Motor Mount Upgrade

I have one of those cable retention setups if you need one.
other than that you can swap to a 73+ clam style but you have to change the motor mount towers as well

Re: Motor Mount Upgrade

I got prothane mounts for mine. They fit in place of old ones. They interlock inside. I removed the recall cable.

That's right, there is an upgraded motor mount that interlocks, which removes the problem if the pad separates.

7-509BL
is the prothane motor mount #

Your supposed to do trans mount as well. I bought energy suspension 3.1108G for that because it was cheaper than prothane.
