Re: Is this considered animal abuse?

She's the most well behaved dog I've ever owned.

We have another dog... wouldn't even dream of trying this with her.

Re: Is this considered animal abuse?

Nabisco is 14-1/2 years old now, so she's pretty chill, but she's kind of always been that way. She's never barked at other animals. The other dog barks at leaves falling off trees.

She stayed until I unwrapped her and told her she could move. She got lots of treats.

I've had her since she was 8 weeks old, I was dating my wife at the time, but she was finishing college down at UGA so I had a lot of free time. Nabisco received extensive training. I tried with the other dog, but the best I could ever get out of her was "sit" and "no".

Don't let her fool you though, that was the best of about 30 shots

Yes, I think that you are right. Our rescue dog got a new coat to wear when it rains. I put it on her and tried to shoo her out back to do her business this morning. She ran over to the front door. OK, I got her harness on and put the coat back on, and took her for a walk. She was all happy with that, and peed and pooped on our walk. I'm now the "Carrier of the Poop", I guess. I sure wouldn't leave it someone's yard for them to clean up. It'd be nice if everyone was like that.

She's owned me since the day I picked her up.

I'm sure someone somewhere takes offense to it.

Re: Is this considered animal abuse?

She likes it.

Same breed as my dog I think, only yours is doing great. I can't believe the teeth on Nabisco @14.5 years. Shilo grinded most of her's off in a kennel. Before that she was abandoned for more than a year. Found a great home only to be neglected again due to the elderly, and now I got her. She likes it here, much healthier too. She likely won't see 12 less 14.5. Severe arthritis in her back.

Shilo before she took some weight off. Her tongue hangs on occasion

Re: Is this considered animal abuse?

Some already know this, but my wife is a veterinarian. There's a reason my pups have lived so long.

Your pup does look similar. We had nabisco DNA tested because she's such a good temperment and she's like 45% Siberian Husky, 40% Golden Retriever, and 15% Lab and a couple others. There's actually a custom breed out there called "Goberians" which are a mix of Husky and Goldens and some of the pups look exactly like her.

Re: Is this considered animal abuse?

She looks like a real sweetie, and I'm sure she's a lot of fun to have around. We have a mutt that we rescued that is some amount of Prince Charles Cavalier Spaniel and some kind of rat terrier, because she has these unbelievably long legs, which the PCCS don't have. Runs around the back yard like a lunatic, now, but had to be let out by people in the beginning, and only went and did her business then came right back in. I guess she was an apartment dog, before. We had to encourage her to get on the couch, at first. Now she's totally spoiled- gets to sleep on a quilt my wife made, on my wife's legs. Dog heaven, I'm sure.

Couldn't tell you what Shilo is, I'm guessing Shepherd and White Lab. I shouldn't have used breed lightly, though Nabisco struck me as Shepherd.

Re: Is this considered animal abuse?

She used to curl up on the couch with my wife, but her arthritis has gotten to where she won't jump up there anymore.

We thought she was a shepherd for like 12 years until we had her tested, surprisingly she had zero in her? The more research I did, the more her temperament and attitude more closely matched that of a husky. She's extremely intelligent and she knows how to work those doe eyes. My other dog is a little on the dim witted side.
