Ad Blocker Blues

.

YouTube has finally put an end to my ad free video tours. That's right, they no longer allow the use of ad blockers.

It's a sad, sad day.

Yeah, it found me this week too. Well, that's too bad. I was about to drop ATT Uverse tv and sign up for YouTube TV instead but now that ain't gonna happen.

Having used both, my pick is definitely YouTubeTv.

Re: Ad Blocker Blues

I can still watch Utube vids, with out ads, by just hovering my pointer over a vid and watching it without opening it fully. No ads. If you want to leave a like or comment you have to fully open the vid. Who knows if that will last. Really their ads are no more irritating, so far, than watching tv. Most of them you can skip easy enough.
There are only 5 internet providers available in my town, presently. I am waiting for Verizon to offer it here. I want to leave ATT Uverse for good.

If you sign up for the ad free YT, it might not squawk about ad blockers.

Re: Ad Blocker Blues

Drop chrome or whatever browser you are using and download Brave browser. It has built in ad blocking so you wont see ads anywhere online. You can also still search google with brave.
It will automatically import your bookmarks from chrome as well.

Re: Ad Blocker Blues

I'll have to check that out. I've noticed a sizeable increase in ads lately, even when using Adblock Plus.

Might have to try that...Brave huh?

What would really be nice is to have a piece of code in the browser that blocks the ads but DOES NOT report back to the site that ads were blocked. The site has no business knowing what I do with their content once it's loaded to my client machine. If I want to toss it ( the ad ) in the bit bucket, that's my decision and the origin of the bits doesn't need to know what happened to them!!

Ah, but that would be too simple and not allow them the requisite level of control over what we can and cannot do.

A quick test using brave and I found Youtube, new york times and usa today web sites didn't seem to care. These are the ones that I know usually balk at ad blockers.

Nice find.

I'm also using Brave on my phone and laptop. Only browser I use on personal stuff. Unfortunately, I have to use Chrome on my work computer, but I typically don't have to search the internet at work, so it's livable

They seem to have backtracked. I still have my ad blocker active and it no longer gives me the message on the video player. Been like that for about a week now.

Re: Ad Blocker Blues

what browser? firefox still has adblock pro working.

if you are using chrome you might deserve it, google is going the way of microsoft, saying their FREE browser should expect to cost all of your data. firefox never wanted anything, donate if you want, if you dont that is cool too.

google is currently trying to force webpages to require a working google account for optimum webpage performance, really just to completely and totally track you. VPNs wont work because you will be logged into your google account through a second sign in, and viola, everything you do is right there.

thankfully, the people that hate tracking are as (or more) experienced in making ways NOT to be tracked. they will come out with a new something, I vote it is called "google dumpster", and it will allow you to spoof the google account and the data collected will never go any further than your one time browser session.

end rant.

Good to know. FF went sideways on me a few years ago; don't remember why. I'm currently using Chrome. If I was till working, some of those IT guys would be able to steer me right.

Re: Ad Blocker Blues

I just started using Brave. Each time I get back on this site I have to log in again. And I am checking the “remember me” box each time. Anyone know what setting I need to change?

Hmm. Good point. But… Cookies are allowed.

This site logs me out each time, and also makes me select desktop site each time.

Ebay and yahoo fantasy football both keep me logged in.

Any ideas?

I’m not great with technology.

Re: Ad Blocker Blues

Youtube locked me out from viewing videos because I have Adblock Plus on Firefox. So I read on Reddit that some people were using uBlock Origin to get around Youtube. I tried uBlock Origin, with Adblock Plus still running, and now I can watch Youtube videos again.

I use ublock origin to help with this site.

I thought when watching u tube lately,
Where is all the Annoying interrupting adds?

So that is what took care of them.

Yep, that's my experience too. Had to test it after reading above that something had changed.

Incidentally, I've discovered my AdBlock on Chrome completely removes the ads YoutubeTV inserts into their Video on Demand products. Wish I could find a blocker to use on my smartTV for the same.
