brake lines 72 4x4

Can someone please take some pics of the brake lines on the drivers side of the engine and how they run to the other side on a 72 4x4. putting new on and a few pics would sure make it easier. Old ones have been gone for years.

The only truck that we have that does not have an engine in it is a 70 that we are converting to disc brakes. The 70 is very similiar except unlike the 71-72 the lines are separated where the 71-72 are run together.

Pic 1 shows the lines from the master cylinder as attached to the outside of the frame. 71-72 trucks will have the lines running together with three clamps instead of two. The 71-72 lines are clamped together with strap clamps.

Pic 2 shows the lines as they come under the frame. The smaller 3/16" line routes to a tee where the drivers side caliper line is routed to the flex hose connection. The passenger side line for the front routes forward and across the front cross member to the other side of the frame where it routes to the right side flex hose connection. On the 71-72's the two lines are clamped together to the frame with strap clamps. (They are not separated like my picture of the 70).

Pic 3 shows the two lines as they appear on the 70 cross member. The 70 cross member has two spring clamps that separate the two lines instead of the strap clamps as used on the 71-72 trucks. The larger 1/4" line at the top of the crossmember goes to the rear brakes.

When I converted mine to discs I did a very similar routing. I used new custom flex-hoses with different fittings than original so I had to re-plumb the entire front of the truck. The hardest part was getting the lines bent up so that they didn't looklike a hack-job.

Post-jack: Jim, where did you get the spring steel to cover the new brake lines. I wanted to do that when I converted mine to disc w/new hard lines but didn't know where to find that stuff.

69 Towrig,

I pick up the springs at the junkyard off of the right size brake tubing. It is surprising how nice some of the springs are on the different cars. I clean up the springs and paint them black before installing.
