What Engines Are These?

Hey Fellas -

What's your best take on the type and year of these two engines?
I'm thinking they are late 60's Chevy 350's, but I'm no Engine Pro.

I have the opportunity to get these for free from a good friend and just looking for some input from the Board.

Thanks for looking,

Re: What Engines Are These?

The orange engine is a 348 or 409 Chevy.
The blue engine at first glance looks like a Dodge.

X2...The blue engine could be a 383, 400 or a 440, or one of Chrysler's goofy truck engines possibly.

Goofy!
Like 350, 361, 383 tall deck, 413 or 426 wedge.

However the cubic inches of the Mopar motor will be stamped on a pad at the front of the motor by the intake.
The orange one is a 409. Easy tell is dipstick location. Not worth much. Probably only get a grand for it!

You could spin those motors from free to a couple grand in a heart beat.

Thanks! I am thinking of keeping the 409, possibly getting it dyno tested or checked out and maybe dropping it in my 64 C10 if/when the GM crate 350 dies. It's already a little sleepy. Hoping that'll work with my Transmission, but hey - this is not a poor man's sport.

Re: What Engines Are These?

I had a 409 340 hp in a 65 impala. Hooked to a power glide. Any Chevy trans will bolt right up.
First fast car I rode in was a dual quad 425 horse 409. Back in 67. It had a 4 gear and 4.56 rear gears. Would smoke the hides all the way thru 3rd.
Depending what size the mopar motor is it could be worth a chunk of change.

A 409 IS a cool engine, but nearly every part only fits a 348 or 409. You would want to make sure you have all the brackets and pulleys, if you make a decision to use it...
What state are you in???

Re: What Engines Are These?

That orange one is worth nothing. It's a better boat anchor then a 305.

Let me get your address, and I will come take care of it for you...

The orange one is junk! I'm a junk collector. I'd be willing to haul it off for you?

Re: What Engines Are These?

The Beach Boys wrote a song about that engine.

Nothing can catch her
Nothing can touch my 409
(409 409 409 409)
Giddy up 409
(409 409 409 409)
Giddy up 409
(409 409 409 409)
