$1.6Billion !!!
It wasn't me, really. I'm sorry to say it wasn't me who won the 1.6 billion in last night's drawing. So far it looks like a single jackpot ticket was sold in South Carolina. I had a few ideas. What would YOU do with it?

Re: $1.6Billion !!!
Seen that on the news first thing this morning. My first thought was, "somebody needs to lawyer up really quickly and really well !" Next thing would be to get a trusted financial adviser.
Correction on first thing to do: KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT AND PUT THE WINNING TICKET IN A SAFE PLACE !! Know the South Carolina lottery rules for remaining anonymous also, they differ from state to state. Tell NO ONE other than spouse if you have one. Not even other family members. Get some things sorted out first before hand. South Carolina allows lottery winners to remain anonymous which would be a very good thing to do. Would not come forward to the lottery commission until I had ALL my ducks in a row. It's a life changing event for sure, whether it will be a good or made change will depend on how it is handled going forward. After that is taken care of, again, proceed slowly and try and have a good life with that money. That much $$ can be a heavy weight to a person if it is allowed to be. Best wishes for whomever won tho.

Re: $1.6Billion !!!
Its always a fun question regarding lottery winnings...what to do with it.
What is equally interesting is the history of past lottery winners who won (very) big. Most of them ended up far less happy in the long run and regretting the win...mostly because they lost their friends and family. There was a really interesting show done on this a few years ago that I watched and interestingly the people who were the happiest about winning the lottery were.....(wait for it).....the ones who gave most of it away or shared most of it, which makes sense. Go figure....but it does make perfect sense. On the other hand, most of the ones who started shopping for themselves the next day in all the big ticket locations ended up on the sad end of the deal. Regardless, as for me?....I would immediately get an accountant or two, a tax lawyer and 3-4 investment advisers on day 1...lol. On Day two...I would look to hire a bonded personal secretary. Then ideally I would start to disburse most of the funds to either friends and family or situations that would promote friends and family....and charities. If you did it right....you could have an absolute blast!! all good! Coley

Re: $1.6Billion !!!
Apparently the ticket was sold in Simpsonville, just down the road from me.
I have no idea... I guess whatever I wanted to, at least for a little while. I would definitely have Chip Foose build a car for me. Probably a first gen bird or camaro.

That's enough money to provide Men in Black for every member of your family so that they don't get kidnapped and sent to you a piece at a time until you pony up a few million. Yes, I really am that cynical.

Re: $1.6Billion !!!
I would set up some kind of trust to help out with less fortunate natural disaster victims. With all the flooding and hurricanes down that way, maybe the winner would do just that.
I cant say I would want to win that much money. Everyone in your family would be targets from that point on. I would be good with 10 mil or less though. Imagine the warehouse I could build to buy every 67-72 I could find. Each one would have its own personal lift lol

Re: $1.6Billion !!!
On the MSN Fake News website, there's an article about the lottery, that says that 7 states (only) allow you to win without having to publicly announce to the world that you are the ass jack that will not make all of your relatives one penny richer...LOL
I don't believe in playing, would only take payout if I could be anonymous (my state does not allow anonymous...) |

In California they own you. Pictures, whatever, you have to comply to some extent. I'd wear a Groucho nose and glasses getup. And legally change my name first.

Re: $1.6Billion !!!
Of course before you signed anything you would want to gather advise from legal & financial experts. Those big prizes come with a heavy tax rate. I think right off the top I'd give generously to a few of my favorite good causes. Then set up a solid plan for the future to ensure my family is taken care of well after I am gone. After that, spend a little here and there doing some things we've put off. I might even get my transmission fixed!

Unless things have recently changed and I have not heard of it Kansas is one of only 7 states that allow a lottery winner to remain anonymous. That would be my plan for sure. Would only let a VERY select few know the situation. Would sweeten the deal to remain quiet with some green.

Re: $1.6Billion !!!
Here is another good one, maybe:
-Start up a few (low? lol) overhead franchises in a few select cities to pick up and deliver food and clothing to the local food banks, etc....in some very cool classic, work trucks...maybe older 50's and 60's vintage with a dress code from the same era. Maybe some very nifty older COE's...maybe even get a few of the famous car restorers involved...Richard Rawlings (Gas Monkey), Chip Foose, etc....a lot of these guys might be interested in helping out. Hit the major car shows, auctions etc...could be a lot of fun and for a very good causes. Then during the holidays do the same for gifts for the poorer kids and Santa parades...with a neat emphasis on including the classic truck/hobby element. Maybe even look for some local volunteers or ....maybe just pay local classic car enthusiasts to help out. Fund the trucks, the restoration, the people, the advertising, the predictable budget....even the food and/or gift at certain times to make sure the effectiveness was there. All good Coley

Re: $1.6Billion !!!
I would like to build a house in the side of a hill. I don't remember the figures but it seems like a structure with 13 feet or so of earth over and around it stays near 68* year round inside. I'm sure I'm off on the numbers but I looked around at a few of those back in the 80s. One had only the garage above ground with all the living area below it. Another was ground level but all covered with earth except the sliding patio doors. In between the trees you could easily miss it being there especially with the fall leaves covering it all. It should be real quiet in there too.
Dennis Weaver ( of Gunsmoke fame ) built his own home in New Mexico and for insulation he stacked large truck tires on top of each other all around the outside walls and packed dirt inside each one of them for natural insulation and strength. I'm sure he pushed dirt up against the tires to make a more pleasing appearance. I would like to have a building large enough to put some things in (just a few cars and trucks) and strong enough to withstand most any storms. That might be better under ground too i guess. Think fallout shelter? I mean as long as we are just thinking out loud and all, these are just a couple of things I'd like to do with such a substantial windfall. There should be plenty left to do some great things with. Cancer and heart disease research and then the kids. I cannot express how much it tears me up to see little kids with cancer and such terrible diseases they do not deserve to be victims of. It's hard to see adults sick and injured but to see children, well, it just shouldn't be. I'm getting mushy and didn't intend to but it's a cause I care very much about.

I read yesterday where the winner still has not come forward on this. What happens if no one claims before time expires?

Re: $1.6Billion !!!
South Carolina already counted that +/-60 million in taxes toward this years education funding (idiots). If they don't come forward we only get like +/- 11 million when it gets split.
The store owner is supposed to get 50K too, if the winner doesn't come forward he loses out on it.
