TV cable to short?

I'm having trouble getting my 77 to shift right. 350 transmission behind a 350ci with Q-jet carb. The engine RPM's are to high when it shifts. I lengthened the TV cable as far as I could. it's better, but still shifting to late. Are there different length cables for the 350?

BADAZ, the 350 tranny doesn't use the cable the same way a 700r does, it's not a tv cable, it's just a downshift cable. I don't think it affects the way the tranny shifts up thru the gears, just when it kicks down.

That's what I always thought. However, it does shift better if I lengthen it. There just isn't enough adjustment to get it to shift the way it's supposed to.

Check the governor and the vacuum moudle on the back of the tran make sure it getting vacuum if its not i will shift high

Yup ^^^ A lot of times the short rubber line that connects to the hard line from the vacuum modulator will crack and not hold vacuum over time. Also, if you have run a long piece of rubber vacuum line down to the modulator it will collapse under vacuum and give false readings to the modulator. Need the hard line from vacuum source (from intake manifold from the factory) to the modulator with short rubber tips where it connects.

I'll take a look at the vacuum hose. So, you all don't think it's a short kickdown cable?

If it holds the tranny in second (passing gear) when you're at half throttle then it's a possibility. If it's not downshifting to second at all when you go to WOT then it's out of adjustment too.

Haven't opened it up to WOT yet. For now I'm just trying to get it to shift from first to second while under normal acceleration.

Then that is a governor/modulator problem. All the kickdown cable does is kick the tranny into second under acceleration, or hold second at half throttle until RPM's drop again.

Unhook the Detent cable to see if it acts normal.....
