Re: Replacement rearend options

You can usually find a good used axle on craigslist for pretty cheap. A direct bolt in replacement will be nice and easy. That or you can rebuild yours. Parts are readily available to go with direct replacement or stronger aftermarket. I see your in Hannibal MO, there is a guy on the Kansas City craigslist that usually has a few of these axles for sale. Now would be a good time to shop for a posi rear end or a change in gear ratio.

Re: Replacement rearend options

If you can find one, A 9.5 inch 14 bolt 5 lug out of a 90s Chevy 454ss. They are strong 3.73 , and posi. It is the only 5 lug 14 bolt ever made that I know of.

Re: Replacement rearend options

Coleman's Army-Navy in Pennsylvania has GI Surplus, new GM axles on pallets, for $499, but they are 3.08:1, 10-Bolt and probably GovLoc differentials. Also shipping may be costly.

Re: Replacement rearend options

never had call to put anything in other than what came out. I suppose the day may come where these rears are that hard to find, and when that happens I'll adapt a later, more easy to find GM truck rear.

Re: Replacement rearend options

Off topic but I see you're from Hannibal. I'm from Palmyra so when I get my truck done we should meet up and show off our trucks.

Re: Replacement rearend options

I used my existing rear and had it rebuilt with all new parts. Bearings, seals, new ring and pinion added a limited slip differential plus new axles.

Went this route because I wanted all new parts in the rear assembly.
