A Guy With A Lot Of Class
I know I could be the only Yankee Fan on here but the guy who caught Derek Jeter's 3000th hit really showed some class when he gave it to him!! He could have made THOUSANDS of DOLLARS on it! I don't know if I could have gave it up,I'd like to think I would have.

Re: A Guy With A Lot Of Class
I saw that, really cool.
Now, it he was really cool about it, Jeter would give the guy something in return.

Re: A Guy With A Lot Of Class
I'd happily offer the ball to Jeter for sale
Although the fan did get something: Quote:

Re: A Guy With A Lot Of Class
I have a feeling that the "extras" the Yankee organization offered him were only offered because he gave the ball to Jeter. I agree that he showed a lot of class, and I think the Yankees rewarded him accordingly.

Re: A Guy With A Lot Of Class
They said that of the 20 or 25 guys with 3000 hits, Jeter is only the 2nd guy to get his with a home run. Valuable ball, no doubt. I heard some talking heads today saying worth maybe hundreds of thousands of dollars. Jeter is and has always been a class act and the fan did the cool thing, but if it was A-Rods, I woulda kept it

Re: A Guy With A Lot Of Class
I think the guy was an absolute fool. The lotto landed in his lap. The ball was his at that point. I don't care if it was Mother Thereasa's 3000th hit- It would at least cost a game check to get it from me.
I love baseball, I respect Jeter and players (few ) like him but balls in the stands belong to the fans- period. If someone wants it - Pony up the cash. I'm sure he's a nice kid and all but 10 years down the road he'll be kicking himself for either not keeping the ball or not selling it. Personally I'd have probably put it on the market about the time Jeter goes into the Hall of Fame. |

Re: A Guy With A Lot Of Class
From 1995 through the 2010 season Jeter has earned $205,430,000.00 (and change lol). I'm not saying he is a good guy or bad guy because of his wealth.
I'm saying if that was me I would have let him have the ball for market value. It would have been zero skin off his nose. The guy that gave the ball back will be a baseball fan's hero to some, and a chump to others.

Re: A Guy With A Lot Of Class
205,430,000 divided by 15 years =13,695,333 per year ... divided by 12 = 1,141,277 per month. divided by 365 = 3,126.78 per day...
LOL, man when you start dividing that out you really get a better feel for how much money that is. My next life Im gonna pick up a bat =) PS, please check my math lol.
