inner door glass felts

The felts that attach to the door panels, are they different for 73-76 vs 77+?

I have the full precision kits, but the U clip isn't deep enough to fully seat the felt on the door panel. They are 5/16-3/8" shallow, on both front and back doors. Before I hack up my beautiful door panels, I just want to ensure what is what.

I have a call in with precision, but it seems they are all out for the holidays- and ofcourse I'm looking to finish this up over the holidays.

Thanks

Did you find out anything?
I know what your talking about. I had a set also that was like that. I was restoring a set of panels for someone. The clips were small compared to the originals. I had to do some trimming, and had to make a few new holes, because the clips didn’t line up.
Now, the second set I got was perfectly fine. The clips were the right size and they all lined up with the door panel. So I’m guessing that the felts with the small clips are actually for another year of door panel. Both of these “were” supposed to be for the 81-87 door panel.

Re: inner door glass felts

I did some checking myself at Precision. I looked up the parts separately, instead of the kits.
73-80 inners are WFL & WFR 10073
81-87 inners are WFL & WFR 10081
I have a guy that sells Precision seals from FB. He looked at the kits and confirmed that the inner sweeps were a different part number, which meant a different part. So it definitely seems to me, that when Precision put these kits together, wrong parts were put in the kit. The part numbers I posted above are the correct part number for the inner sweeps, if you were to purchase them separately. This is what I got for the next set of door panels that I am doing, and they are the longer clips, and they line up with the panel.
Hope this helps.

I still haven't got any answers from Precision. x-mas must have them all shut down, right when most of us are trying to get some stuff done.

I'll check those numbers vs what I have.

What I'm curious is if 73-76 is different than 77-80...since the door panels are different.

When I looked at their website for this part, they went from 73-80, and then 81-87. That’s why I added the part numbers to the previous post. So from that, I would assume there is no difference from 73-76 to 77-80, since it’s calling for the same part number.

Re: inner door glass felts

And looking at other vendors, they have them listed the same way.
73-80 and then 81-87.

Re: inner door glass felts

The other thing I heard of was the 81 up glass is thinner. Don,t know if that has anything to do with the felts

no this is a problem with the door panels.

I haven't installed yet to see how much trouble the glass will give me

Re: inner door glass felts

Basically just need to trim the panels to make it work.

Re: inner door glass felts

I had to cut one door panel on my 74 when using Precision inners. I found a NOS GM inner felt for my passenger door panel, so I don't have to cut that one when I restore it.

Re: inner door glass felts

GM had a two different style that changed back in the day I forget what year most of them are long gone (it the clips design) But if you have the right year inner window felts for the door panels your using you should be ok there. You have to pare the glass and the felts outer and inners door panels as the same year for best fit. But some time the door maybe tweaked so you may need to tweak felts or the door channel or the clips.

TKCR first pic shown in this quote: is for sure 81-87 felts short and low clips.
