how do i fix this problem?
went to install my one piece drive shaft in the 67 swb, ears that hold universal joint in rear yoke are gone, look like they were take off with a grinder by previous owner, by my u-joint hooked up perfect, was wondering if i could spot weld bearing caps in place to yoke

I think that the yoke is cast iron but I could be wrong. Cast iron is hard to weld as you probably know. I would not weld anything that had power going through it that was cast but thats just me.

I'm thinking you know the answer to this. A picture might change what I am saying but it sounds like it is time for a replacement yoke.

i dont like to admit it but i had a truck where the ears wore down so i just centered the u-joint and tacked it in. It seemed to work, it lasted a few years until i swaped out the complete diff. It was a short term fix at best.

I think you run the risk of welding the needle bearings in place and the u-joint won't live. make sure you have a phone and AAA when you go driving it. IMO

oilyrag80, thats what i wanted to do but now i,m concerned that the yoke is cast, or drill a small hole and put a 1/4 screw that the head will catch the bearing, bearing caps meets up even with yoke
