Was this a factory option?

The step insert in the photo below. I have been told it was a factory option, but I cannot find anything online about it. Experts weigh in! Also, thoughts on keeping it or taking it out and patching hole?

Truck is a 69 custom c10 350 CI 373 gear

they were an original accessory option at least. others can chime in. seems like a hard to find part, someone will want them if you take them off. i vote take it off. i'm all for originality but unless you're doing a 100% factory resto, i don't think they look good. imho.

It was an aftermarket accessory available for all trucks at this time period. Occasionally they pop up on eBay or even on the Parts Board. Tim, "AKA" Special K, had them on his old Dodge he used to have, maybe he'll post a pic if he sees this post, I would also keep in the bed, why not the holes already there

Oh gosh, that's a cool option! I would love to have something like that!

If you do take it off, you'll sale it quickly. Although taking it off would require repair and repaint for the bed.

My truck is a stepside, so I won't be in the market.......thus.....I am unbiased in my reply.

The bed is ruined, I will pick it up and get it out of your way so you don't have to deal with it I like them factory or not

I do have both! They are both still in the bed.

The truck will be totally repainted (corvette cyber gray/summit white in craftsman c10 scheme. As of now thats the plan..could change). I can't picture how they would look...may look good may not I am up in the air about keeping them right now.

i think they are cool AND very useful too. i have a few NOS ones still in the GM boxes but there is one version i can not find. i have one i took off a 68 chevy 4x4 that has GM E-Z STEP embossed on the outer edge and i'd love to find a twin to it. if i could find a mate to it i would sell my NOS ones in a heartbeat but i've been looking for over 20 years and have yet to see another like it.

I just bought a set of these off the parts board. Im looking forward to getting them. I think they are a very cool accessory for my K20 4x4

They were an accessory, or dealer add on, GM didn't have people cutting bedsides going down the assembly line, they were installed later at a dealership, so I don't believe they would have ever been on a SPID. Do you have the glovebox from that truck?

I had a NOS set a few years back and I think they're cool, although I just couldn't see myself cutting a hole in my bed! Same with the NOS front bumper I had, needed a hole in it for my winch and I just couldn't even think about taking a torch to it so I sold it.

What I don't understand is that part of the bed side is not very structural, doesn't the sheet metal flew a lot when you stand in them ? You think they would have brced it to the frame somehow

If I bought a truck and they were on it, I'd leave them and get them rechromed. I wouldn't buy a set to install on truck that didn't have them.

I'm building my truck to use as a truck. And because it is lifted a bit these steps are a perfect accessory. I am wondering about rigidity though. Guess Ill figure it out when I get to that "step" in my build.

You know, if you fleetside guys had any brains, instead of worrying about these little "add on steps" and asking questions on the forum, you'd just buy a stepside bed like a normal person!



These steps would be a big help in climbing up into a bed; I wonder what other rare dealer add-on options are out there we haven't heard of yet?

I have a set that I plan to install. They are aluminum and I plan on polishing the outside ring and painting the inside of the step the same color as the body. IMO they are a very interesting add on.
