235 6 Cylinder Split Manifold Recomendations

Hey guys,
my Dad has a 50 Chevy Business coupe and I would like to get him a split manifold exhaust for him.
It has the big 235 6 banger in it.
Any recommendations?
Will I need to change the intake also or can one just install a split exhaust manifold on by itself?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Are you sure it’s a 235?
Could be a 216 if original.
Look here for headers and other things.
Headers can be installed with stock intake.

If you use headers you will lose heat to your intake. No heat can create running problems in cooler weather.

Yes, you should be aware that the inlines used the original exhaust manifold as a "heater" for the intake. The warmth of the exhaust was directed to the intake floor just below the carb. Removing this heat source can cause the motor to warm up slowly and it might not allow the stock inake to reach the ideal temp for proper fuel atomization at all. Notice how most modified inliers also use an intake with a hot water line plumbed into the manifold when headers are used. Remember, atomizing gasoline in a carb actually reduces its temperature. Even a stock V/8 utilized an exhaust crossover thru the middle of the inake and their manifolds aren't just hanging out in the breeze like an inliner's. Edit: i just noticed Geezer already told you you'll lose heat so I guess I just told you why.

The original 2-piece cast iron headers for the old L6s were Fentons. Don't know if they're still available anymore. Tom Langdon's Stovebolt Engine Company sold a similar set of headers for the ''Late'' series L6s, 230,250, 292s. They sold out to Tom Lowe of www.12Bolt.com
Check them out.
Also try the classified ads at www.inliners.org

If you live in cold country and need carb heating, you can plumb hot water lines from the heater hoses to a plate under the carb. No need to run the obsolete intake just to have carb heat. Sure, The Olde Gods will be offended. Big deal. They're dead. And they know it.
