paypal gift option

This is NOT in reference to anyone person or any one incident. It seems folks just blindly use the gift option on paypal.

Just curious as to how many have for purchases? Any reputable vendor will deal with paypal fees, and not ask someone to pay with the gift option. We have never asked folks to use the gift option and pay fees and taxes on every transaction involving this site.

So, how many folks use the gift option when paying for stuff on paypal? How many ask folks to use it when selling?

curiosity has gotten to me.

Re: paypal gift option

I have been wanting to post something like this for awhile. To me it seems petty selling a part for $20 "send as gift or 3% fees" . Just advertise it for $21 and take the fees. Also, you ARE NOT covered if you send as a gift! If the seller doesn't feel like shipping your part, too bad for you! Again, you are not covered at all. If i buy something here and the seller doesn't say anything abut fees, i just add about 1/2 of what the fees would be.

If i sell a higher dollar item, i try to request a money order or tell them it will be extra money if using paypal. (hundreds of dollars)

To answer your question liz, i very seldom "gift"

Re: paypal gift option

I use the gift option when asked. Then again most transactions are from fellows I have purchased from before and are lees than a hundred dollar transfer. Something big I would not pay as a gift. I have not been stiffed here yet and don't expect to but it could happen I guess.

Re: paypal gift option

Personally I think that sellers should factor in all associated fees in their asking price. I'd much rather pay a tine bit more for some buyer protection.

Re: paypal gift option

As a vendor I usually just eat the fee ..... Which can add up when selling wheels , which I sell some of , On front runner systems you can loose as much as $60-70.00 on a trasaction , but it is just the same as taking a credit card over the phone (costs) . I believe the paypal transaction offers safety for the customer as well as the seller to a certain degree. I dont ask for payment as a gift. I have donated to certain things and done it as a gift so they got the full donation tho.

Re: paypal gift option

PayPal fees are just part of the cost of doing business. You just have to factor in your costs before setting a price. On Ebay I just raise my price to cover fees and shipping, that way there are No questions that aren't answered.

Re: paypal gift option

Depends on who and how much but most of the time I will send as gift as long as I feel comfortable with the seller. You can usually tell a lot from the communication before paying how the seller is. slow or avoided answers never get gifted. Jut my 2 cents

I have used it on small stuff when requested. On the bigger items I just send a little extra to cover the fees so I am protected. I never ask people to send payment as a gift on stuff I sell but some have. My recommendation to buyers is not to use it on any amount of $ you can't afford to lose....

There are several bad deals on the review board from just that.

I agree on donations. This site eats all fees as well. IMHO its all part of it. Paypal has a decent resolution policy if you follow the rules .

Re: paypal gift option

This one is easy for me. When I set up my paypal it uses a credit card that is only used for this purpose. PayPal will not let you gift if the account is a linked to a credit card.

I have paid the 3% fees on purchases in the past. I find it annoying, but if it's something I want, I don't really have a choice.

Re: paypal gift option

Due to previous issues of them basically locking my money up and refusing to return it over some extremely trivial stuff and their anti gun stance refusing to process any transaction that's firearms related I just wont use paypal at all.

Re: paypal gift option

Figured this should be bumped up again. I would bet if this gift option gets abused much more, it won't be an option from paypal anymore...
