4.3/5.7 swap

so, im not necesarily(sp) going to do this, but i have done my research a little bit, but havent found what i want. i have a new style 2000 gmc sierra 1500 with a 4.3 automatic...i was told that if i wanted to do a v8 swap the 5.7 would be the way to go because they are actually from the same gen and it would drop right in...but as these trucks did not come with the 5.7 what about my exhaust? will my stock exhaust work with the 5.7 manifolds? if i run headers are the flanges the same for a 5.3 so i can use 5.3 headers on a 5.7?

any input is helpful...

Re: 4.3/5.7 swap

I agree with the logic about the swap, but unfortunately I don't have any specifics for you. I do know regardless, you'll need to have the computer redone. Also, I don't know the laws of your state, but by fed standards the 350 will have to meet the emission standards of the newer body.

Interesting topic and I hope we can some answers, as it may give me a plan for my 02 in the future.

Re: 4.3/5.7 swap

well...im not really too sure about the emissions thing either, would it really be any different than the 2000 classic as far as laws go? i am seriously thinking about doing this...possibly next winter, as the truck needs a good amount of work anyways...might as well do it then. gotta get both front fenders and some bondo here and there...

my father bought the truck brand new in late 99...and never learned preventative care...poor old thing is starting to rust out and the front fender has a beautiful dent...

on that topic is there any vendors on this site that carry parts for my truck?
