Post chrome ignition ring

the ring around the ignition "where u put the key" wont come off i gota new one and if u look at it its supposed to screw off and the old one starts too but wont come all the way off ??? any help would be great and wish me luckim goin to court today ivalready got probatoin till im 21 (4 yrs) from the state and now ive got to go to city court tonigth for 2 reckless drivings in one weekend

Sounds like you need to just take the ignition switch out and not replace it for awhile. LOL

Well, if your still a free man and reading this, LOL, you need to remove the cylinder first. Put in key and turn to the ACC position. Insert a small allen wrench in the small hole on the front of the cylinder and press in hard while turning counterclockwise past the ACC postion. The cylinder should pop out. Then you can replace the bezel.

400 hp can get you into a lot of trouble.....always look around before you do burnouts!!!! 69 longhorn,44yrs young,but goin on 17!

I had to use a special tool to get mine out, it stuck from sitting in the dash for 30+ years, turned the key to accessory, used the paper clip the old man was using for a key chain, bent it, inserted it in the hole in the cover, unscrewed the ring.

I had no luck with paperclips either. Someone on this site suggested using the small allen wrench and it worked like a charm.

This question comes up so often, maybe we need an FAQ here for our trucks.

HAHAHAHA i got so lucky the judge held me ater adn we ended up talkn about my truck ad he dissmissed them both all i have is communiy service for 8 hours he told me not to tell but i cant help it i got so lucky i thought i was gonna have to give up my racing carrer

i use a torch round tip file,the big one that dont bend.
