Bellhousing for 11" clutch? Help!
I was wondering if you need a special bellhousing to run an 11" clutch setup? Or will just about any car bellhousing fit an 11" clutch? this is for a 454 BBC

There are 2 basic style of the older aluminum bellhousings. There is the one for the 153 tooth flywheel and the one for the 168 tooth flywheel. You will need the one for the 168 tooth flywheel. That one can be easily identified by the slight bulge outward where the starter nose fits. I imagine there is a specific casting number, but I do not know what it is.

Any of those old cast iron bells would handle an 11, or 12 " clutch. Most likely, the alum truck bells will also handle either/or.....you need to talk with the boys on the 73 -up board crazyL

I found a pic of a bellhousing that accomodates the 168 tooth flywheel.
I see that it is referred to as the '621' bellhousing. Apparently that is the last 3 of the casting number.

Just so you know, the early(through 67 truck bells), used the same pilot hole as the car trans did(4 11/16). 68 -up on the truck bell was a 5 1/8" hole. You can still run the big hole bell , with the car trans, but do need an aftermarket press on ring, on the front bearing retainer to "properly" center the trans in the bell. CrazyL
