First time C10 owner (potentially)....

New to this forum, but seems like the place to go for info.

I have always wanted a 67-72 Chevy C10. As I'm now in a financially able position to do it, it's time to purchase one to restore with my dad. Sold all the race car stuff (except the motor so we can restore a truck together.

i found a 67 C-10 Fleetside Longbed for sale locally. Getting more detailed pictures, but it APPEARS to be in pretty good shape. Typical rust and wear and tear that would be expected.

My question is, for you more experienced restorers, can you please give me some tips on what I SHOULD be looking for in terms of defects and rust? From what I gather, cab corners and cab mounts are where I should be mostly looking for damage. Rockers, fenders, etc can all be repaired/replaced pretty easily.

Just want to make sure I get something that my pop and I can work on and learn as we go, without being totally defeated by work we aren't qualified to handle.

Rockers and cab corners are notorious for rust, but are a relatively easy fix. The other spots to watch out for is the top of the cowl/firewall area, and the leading edge of the roof/top of the windshield frame. If either of these places are rusted bad, I would recommend looking for a different truck.

You'll get some good responses to your question, I'm sure, but this particular question has been asked many, many times before, and there are some very good threads out there, with very detailed information available on "what to look for"

If you like doing detailed research, I would recommend doing a search on the forum, and perusing some of the previous posts on the subject. You'll find the search box in the upper right side of the forum screen.

Buy the nicest truck that you can afford. It will save time, money and a lot of headaches down the road. Full blown restro is a very time consuming and expensive.

Get one with as good a body as you can find as proper body work is very expensive and time consuming. Mechanical stuff ( like an engine replacement ) is a lot easier to deal with than fixing rockers cab corners. One last suggestion, be patient in your search, these trucks pop up for sale here and on various sites daily.

Good point.

I did receive some more pictures of the 67' i was looking at locally. Appears to have a fair amount of rust in the window seams and floors of the cab, more then I really want to deal with. Think I will just keep looking for now.

Welcome to the board.

Don't overlook abandoned project trucks (Sometimes located in the parts sections of c-list and on here). If body work and paint are done that can be a big savings. Sounds like you know what you are looking at so just be patient.

It's amazing the varying prices on these trucks, depending on where you look. I have been looking mainly on ebay and on CL. Anwhere from the northeast (ny, nj, pa, ct) down to the south (nc, va, wv, md, de) and the prices are all over the board.

What I'm REALLY looking for is a 67-72 (prefer 67-70) 2wd longbed fleetside. The search continues

You might consider looking at arizona and new mexico for a truck, and having it shipped to you. Might be cheaper in the long run (rust repair, complete truck)

I'm just always nervous about buying something that I can't go see, but it's always an option

Hop on a plane and go look at a bunch.

If you choose off hours and large airports you can fly round trip for +/-$400. I've flown out west multiple times for work in the past few years.

That little bit could save you THOUSANDS in headaches and buying a covered up crap truck (I'd also recommend buying original paint or a very old repaint so you know what you're getting.)

Since you want a longbed, you should be able to find a very affordable truck out west, hell, you might even be able to drive it home!
