Post Replaceing axle seal on Dana-60

One of the axle seals on my Dana 60 is leaking. Never replace one of the before and am open to suggestions. This is the inner seal not the metal gasket where the axle bolts in?

That would be the inner seal thingy. All you have to do, is remove the wheel, then remove the drum. Now you can see you just have a small hub thingy that the axle is bolted to. Take out the small bolts that hold the axle in, and slide out the axle.

Now the hub will have a little lock ring holding the hub nut in place. Bend the little tab away, and remove the hub nut. Now the hub should just pull off of the spindle. Now its just a matter of replacing the seal, and putting it all together the way you took it apart. Just remember to not overtighten the hub nut when replacing it. Just tight enough to take up the play in the bearings. Much like doing a front wheel bearing.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for help. I followed your instructions and it came right out. Just ordered the seal and it will be here tomorrow.

That was good advice i just changed the axle seal on my Dana 44. And i just bought the seal and had it pressed on by my local machine shop, takes them about a minute to do with the right equipment.
