Found a dually, what's it worth?

Guys:

I found a guy who has a '71 Chevy dually that he is willing to sell. It used to be a tow truck, but the tow bed has been removed. It's just a cab and chassis now with a rebuilt 350 that runs good. It's in pretty decent shape overall. Not much for options. It could use rockers, but that's about it. Just a good old work truck. I'd like to put a dump bed on it. I've been looking for a dually for awhile and haven't really found anything. The guy wanted too much for it. I've been trying to buy it for awhile. He's down to $1800. Too much still? That seems a little high to me, but these old duallies are hard to come by. What do you all think?

Thanks.

Well a 71 has disc up front, I think, so that's a plus, what's the wheel
base on her, 133" or the elusive 157", sounds like a 133" since it was
a wrecker, if it runs good, and it's all there I might pay his price.

All depends on the body condition. From the sound of it the price is high. I paid $500 for my running and driving, working dump box 71 C30(157"). It isn't pretty, but it is functional. I also just stopped and looked at a 71-72 C30, 157" with a 292/4spd. No bed on it either and the price is $595.

Well I'll tell you what, There's a 71 or 72 GMC dually flat bed next to the TXDOT building on South Congress, between Stassney and Ben White, that I'm sure could be had if this one doesn't work out. It's on the east side of Congress and best seen if you are coming from the south heading north on Congress.

Sounds to me like the guy wants you to pay top dollar for a pig in a poke. One tons are out there for cheap right now, since every one wants a short bed sport truck.
