What is the advantage of Rack and Pinion vs stock?

I was curious about the advantage of power rack and pinion vrs stock power steering. I have a powersteering setup on my truck now but i want don't want the truck to have "play" in the steering wheel. Unfortunately i wasn't able to drive the truck before i tore it apart so i don't know how the steering feels. Also if it helps with steering performance then that would be nice also. Thanks ahead of time.

Rack and pinion is suppost to give a better feel when driving. I have driven both and like the recirculating ball steering better. After a long day in the car/truck you will be more refreshed after driving the recirc. After a few hundred miles of rack and pinion you will be whipped, Because you are always under tension with the rack. If you have play in your old recirc adjust it or replace the steering box.
They have no real play in them when setup and take no effort to steer with power assist. JMHO

I would just replace the old worn out steering components with new stuff, like Pitman arm, idler arm, upper and lower ball joints, inner and outer tie rods, upper and lower cross shafts. Then maybe consider replacing the gear box, if it needs it.

So what you are all saying is that there isn't any real advantage to changing to rack and pinion steering and that for the extra money i should just stay with my power steering. Is that it in a nut shell? Thanks for the help. I really appreciate it!!!!!!!!
