Questiton for you 4x4 folks

Is the th350 on a 2wd the same as a th350 4x4? I know the end shaft is different along with the transfer case but is there a difference between the two? I ask since my son is pulling everything off his 80 2wd w/ a th350 and he knows that the trans is in good shape, but the 78 4x4 k10 w/ a th350 he's not to sure of, in fact it could not stay in park so he wants to swap the two.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Tom

Re: Questiton for you 4x4 folks

I've heard from other people here the overall case measurements minus the tailshaft are the exact same.

Meaning he just needs to get inside the 2wd 350 and change out the end shaft with the one currently inside the 4x4.

Then he'll have another th350 that's in known good condition.

I have a guy building me a th350 for my 86 right now but to take place of the 700r4.

4x4 trans vs 4x2 trans they are identical. The biggest difference is the tailshaft and the adapterplate for the t-case. Plus you have to pull the trans all the way down to replace the output shaft, which is basically a rebuid.

Capt.
So your saying you just cannot pull off the tail shaft from the 2x4 and install the the 4x4 w/o a rebuild?

Re: Questiton for you 4x4 folks

It doesn't required a rebuild, but the tailshaft is the first thing to go into the case.
