Setting up my timing

I am playing with the timing on my truck using an adjustable vaccum advance, mechanical advance kit, timing tape, and a timing light. The motor is a 350 with 8.5:1 compression, HEI, and i run 89 octane in it. My cruise RPM at 65-70 is 2500-2800 RPM. How much total advance with the vaccum and mechanical advance combined should i look for? What should i end the mechanical advance at? The vaccum advance is a Crane part, and the mechanical weights are a Summit part. Thanks for the help!

I would suggest 34 degress total timing in at 2750rpm or so.. 10deg initial 12 degrees of vacuum on full manifold vacuum, not ported and 22-24 degrees of mechanical if you use ported vacuum you will be at 45 or so at 2750 rpm...not good.. this is a basic guide line... with your motor being basically stock, you might start out at 8 degrees initial
