I just got a 71 c10

I just got a 71 c10 and this is my second vehical and iIm 15. What should I do to it? Do any body have any parts that I might be able to use? I got this truck for $900 a couple of weeks ago . What do you all think? I am the 3rd owner and it has 90 thousand original miles. It has rust in all of the normal places. I got a new tailgate and a set of ralley wheels withe the rings and centers for a $100 a couple of weeks ago.

The rear main sill has a leak. I have all ready looked at that. The roof and drip rails are fine. The option code is still in the glove box. It is an Cheyenne with factory tint. It was yellow and white originally. Im going to paint it yellow. It is a 5 lug with front disc.

Re: I just got a 71 c10

Looks like a good deal for $900 any history on it? with all those different colors, It looks like someone has been doing some replacing of alot of body parts getting it ready to someday be painted, I've seen alot worse looking trucks here be turned into bada$$ Hot Rods or even show pieces, any idea why it has a 70 front end?

Re: I just got a 71 c10

The guy I bought it from said the hood and grill was dinged up so he put a better front end on that he had. I want to put it back to the originall front end. The bed is the only other part that is not original. The other one the guy said broke in to when he took it off. The truck has never been wreacked.

I was gonna say, it's got a coat of many colors - but that's O.K., it gives it character. Have fun with it, make it safe, and above all, start making memories with it. You're young - don't get too serious on that truck - enjoy it!

New parts? there's some great vendors on this board, used parts? I think You'll have to ask someone more familiar with your part of the country, ya never know, there might be a cool junkyard with many of these trucks just waiting. Good luck, & enjoy, part of the fun is the hunt.

from South Texas. As far as used parts go you can subscribe (by following the likn in my sig.) and post a WTB ad in the classifieds section. There are alot of members here that are great to deal with.

Re: I just got a 71 c10

welcome from Tennessee. where should you start?
First with a thorough cleaning then diagnostics, make a list of issues that can leave you stranded. Look at safety issues, brakes tires possible fire hazards.
Remember chrome won't get you home make a reliable ride first, then get some bling. again welcome to the board

Quick question. Does it run? If so what issues have you seen?

Re: I just got a 71 c10

It runs fine. The trans goes into gear easy and the clutch is strong. The front end needs to be lined up. Im going to rebuild the front with all new parts so im no wooried about it now. it drives fine except the sterring wheel is not straight. It could use some new shocks also.

Re: I just got a 71 c10

check the radiator outside for a green color and or missing fins . check how clean coolent is and pressure check it- better to find out now when it's warm than in the dead of winter if it's bad
