yea, I'm a newby, is there a search mode? anyway, I want to swap out the 6 lug rear from a 69 C-10 1/2 ton to a newer 5 lug rear. I have a 73 C-10 5 lug rear with leaf springs. your help please

Is your 69 leaf or coils springs on back??
I have seen the newer diffs bolted up to the older coil spring set up. They had to fabricate a panhard bar brace because the 73 up didn't have the panhard bars. And the spring perches are welded on straight whereas the coilspring set up diffs. have the spring perches are on an angle.
Just seems to me it would be easier, to find a 71 rearend already 5 lug and made for the coilsprings

You can take the brackets off the one and put on the other rear

You can either remove the old pads from your original rearend housing and reinstall them on the 73' haousing or buy new pads. Here is a pic of my 9" that I did.

You can also take your axles and a 5 lug drum to a machine shop and have them machine down the hub and redrill the axle. When I called around I was quoted between $80 and $140 dollars.

I'm a new to this forum as well. In fact my first reply.The other suggestions are do able but your best bet due to the track bar is to get a 71-72 coil spring rearend out of a C-10. It will be a direct fit with absolutly no modifications. Although it is a couple inches wider. All 71-up 2 or 4wd are wider. The same as the 73 rearend you have. These 71-72 rearends are generally found for 150-200 bucks at a salvage yard. good luck
