Door latch problems

Iam having a hard time getting my door to shut tight. I have tried taken out and redoing the shims but nothing has worked, Im wondering if the latch just needs to be replaced. Any info would be greatly apperciated.

Re: Door latch problems

Not sure which shims you are referring to, but I adjusted mine by loosening the door bracket and tapping in until I got it to shut right.

Be aware that if you have a worn or torn rubber door seal it will affect the way it shuts. I had to readjust mine when I bought new push on seals from GMC Pauls.

The striker (pictured above) could also be in "too far" and only letting the door close to the safety catch before it contacts the rubber seal....

The shims Iam referring to might not even be called shims but they are the little strips of metal between the striker and the cab the 4 bolts hold them on. I never thought about my door seals affecting the way the door shuts, I have just had this problem with this truck since my dad bought back in 90.
