Tranny cooler?

Ill be running a 496 stroker/th400 in my 72 very shortly. I was wondering if a tranny cooler is a must have. It'll be just a weekend cruiser with maybe one or two trips to drag races every year. The trans has a trans-go street shift kit and 2800 stall. thanks and figured I'd add a picture of the new mickey thompson street ets mounted

Re: Tranny cooler?

ALWAYS a good idea, just run an inline thermostat. Cuz to cold is not good either.
I'm upgrading my smaller B&M cooler to big super cooler cuz of 3K stall.

Re: Tranny cooler?

I would run through both. As said too cold isn't good either. if you are going to drive it at all in cooler temperatures the rad (i believe) warms up the fluid for better operating temperatures durring startup. Please correct me if im wrong .

Re: Tranny cooler?

If you run an inline thermo you can do w/o the rad.
The thermo I'm using opens @ 180.
So once the trans is up to 180 it starts goin to the cooler.
I also run an external filter & amsoil super shift synth fluid
