frustration on buying headers (help!!!)

Got a 67 a looking to buy headers but can't find anything. The headers i have are some noname brand and im burning wires 5 and 7... i can use shorty plugs and almost clear but i still rather use my acdelco r45s... i have camel hump heads and just looking to find some good headers. can anyone give me some advice and some pics to help me

Just a thought, but a lot of guys (including me) like the stock manifolds - I like the sound and the straight dumps fit nice. They are cheap and headers in a stock or mildly over - stock motor don't help that much - and I don't like to deal with exhaust leaks either. Just a thought.

Its hard to find headers that leave plenty of room around the plugs. Exhaust manifolds, preferably ramshorns with 2.5 outlet, may be the only way to get what you want with respect to the plugs.

I just bought a set of dynomax headers, p/n 85003 when I put the new engine in my 69 C/10. I used a set of NGK plugs, and accel under the header wires with 90* boots. I have no issues with the headers touching any plug wire. What is nice about the NGK plugs is that they are a little shorter than AC plugs, which give you more clearance. All of my hot rod engines seem to run better with NGK plugs too, so its a bonus. What was nice about this set of headers is that they fit well, and it only took me 20 minutes to have them in place after I took them out of the box. The passenger side went in from the top and the drivers side went in from the bottom. The headers were also less than $100 when I got them a few weeks ago.

Nice engine, wish mine looked that clean. Is that a factory small block radiator, looks like a very thin core. Also, will you be running a fan shroud or does it cool fine without it?

im running a lil radical motor, those headers look good. im wanting a full length ceramic style. i have a 12-1 motor with a 550 lift cam just something enough to have a good lo e and play around with. i have pics on my phone but dont have access to put them on here. unless some one can shoot me and email and i can forward the pics. thank youll for the advice. question about the ngk plug what number do you use??? i would like to try some

Its a factory sbc rad from what I can tell. When i first put the engine in it, I fired it up and let i run for about 30 minutes and it never got over 170* and it was idling at about 6-700 rpm. I found an old fan shroud at my uncles house a few days ago that needs a few repairs, so I plan to fix it and put it on there.

The ngk part number that crosses over to your AC r45s is 2637. I can't remember what mine were, but i'm sure that they wouldn't work in your heads. I think that the camel hump heads used a plug that required a 13/16" socket whereas mine require a 5/8" socket.

If you like the Dynomax headers the fella posted above, order Summit house brand headers. They are Dynomax brand units. You can see the Dynomax part numbers stamped into the tubes. They run about 90 bucks for the plain, and 180 for the Jet Hot coated ones.

We run the hooker comp headers with the wires run underneath like the stock wires, looks clean and not getting any burnt wires.

I had Thorely Tri Y's on my factory 402BB truck...I decided to go back to the stock manifolds with Spintech mufflers. Why...I didn't want the exhaust to show below the frame plus for me headers were not a real advantage in my application.

I have a 68 and went with Flowtech from jeggs. you get the kit for around 135.00 with shipping. even works with clutch linkage.

Here's how I've got mine setup. Hedman Elite headers, ACDelco R45TS plugs, and Taylor wires running through the Proform wire looms. No issues with burnt wires.




The Hedman Elite headers aren't ceramic coated, but they have a thermal HTC coating with a 5 yr. warranty. They're not too expensive either. I paid about $269.00 for mine over 2 yrs ago.

your build pics show two different headers... which set did you end up with? The set with the front tube on top or the set with the front tube down under? Are they both sanderson mid length? I'm leaning toward the sandersons but ECE doesn't seem to respond to email questions about tube diameter questions (1 1/2 or 1 5/8) I thought I read the 1 5/8's were an option?
