Lowering spindles?
I've located some lowering spindles. The spindle arms come with both spindles for the 1.0" or 1.25" thickness rotors. The problem is I would have to pressout the spindle from the arms and press in the correct spindle for my truck. Is this common?
Options= Change out the spindles to fit and weld the spindle from the back side? Hold off and find the right ones. What determines the rotor size difference? Is there a rule of thumb? Small block= 1.0"? Big block1.25"? Long bed 1.25"? Tow package 1.25" Mine is a shortbed L6 so I'm thinking I have the 1.0". It's too cold out for me to check tonight. |

This is not common for a '73-'87 truck.
Sounds like some cheap Aim/Airbagit junk spindle. Skip these. Get a good quality spindle that is correct for your width rotor. Period.

I believe the 1" rotors started in 1981.
I never understood why GM made two different rotor thicknesses.

No reason. No year specific.
Some trucks had 1" LD rotors and some had 1.25" HD rotors. I assume the cheaper 6 cylinder/plain jain trucks got the lighter rotors. My '86 silverado had 1.25" rotors,... and my '83 small block stepside (equipped with a lot of options) had 1" light duty rotors. Who knows,...
