Re: Front driveshaft
What is supposed to "collapse"....the slip yoke? That's the only thing that I can think of. What about spraying the splined portion of the yoke?

Re: Front driveshaft
Yeah its the slip yoke. I tried spraying it and no luck. I tried with a pry bar in the u-joint to pry it back and still nothing. I can't believe how solid it is. I am wondering if removing the cross member and lowering the back half of the tranny will give me enough room to remove it???

Re: Front driveshaft
what ever you do, don't force it. Just get a bigger hammer. Thats what I had to do.
Mine was froze up, so I got a longer prybar for more leverage.

Re: Front driveshaft
I used to have a '76 Blazer. It had a "clunk" when you started moving or right as you stopped. There was a stack of work tickets in the glovebox that included this as a description of the problem.
I took it to a service station (remember those?) and they did a thorough lubrication on it....including the slip yoke on the front driveshaft. The clunk? It went away. If you don't have a grease fitting on that slip yoke, I'd really pay attention to the lube process and do whatever I had to do to keep it lubed...after you get it off. And, back on.

Re: Front driveshaft
Yeah when I get it out I am going to be adding a grease fitting to it so I never have this problem again. I can't seem to get enough leverage since I don't have a hoist and I am working on the ground. I am hoping that I can get enough clearance when I lower the tranny. Then I should be able to separate it from the yoke on the front diff.

Re: Front driveshaft
If you can jack it up and put the front end on jackstands (safety....safety....safety), it should take the pressure off of the front axle and let it relax and that should give you a skosh more room with tension off of the torsion bars.
