Post RPM's at 100?

I think Racedvl was asking...

I know it isn't quite 100 MPH, but the angle of the cam was wrong too. It was right at 95, maybe 94 MPH.

yup, you gotta love those tall gears out on the hyway......still think about stickin the 3.40s back in from time to time. 4.10s are ok on a short run & fun to play with, but really buzz the motor..........69

Lol, you are a brave man longhornmail. I had mine up to about 100 the other day, passing a late model Mustang GT. Sure, he could have proably smoked me, but i don't have a top speed limiter . My truck kinda runs out of steam at about 100, even with 3.07 gears, its not very aerodynamical, and i have a cam with the most tourqe from 2000-3000 RPM. It will buzz from 60-80 in a heartbeat though .

I have had mine up to what would have been 110-105 on the speedometer, and it still had a little bit left in it. If i roll up my windows, get a nice straight flat stretch, i might be able to hit 120. I just really don't want to get a $300 ticket :S.

chop the top, & lay the sheild back.....makes a pretty big diff on wind drag. im topped @ about 126 on the 4.10 gears, but she would run 140 with 3.40 gears........sometimes you have to wonder if a roll cage would be a good idea......69

All I know is that ya'll are crazy! 4500 pounds of American steel going that fast, just asking for it! I can't wait to join you, but that's probably a couple of years away for me, considering all that I have to do to get mine safe at 60, let alone triple digits!

Let's see, with my current setup (4.57s) I should be able to hit 100 if I can just get the motor to turn 20,000 RPM.....

When I was in high school I had a SD455 Trans Am with Ram Air IV heads , a goodly sized cam and some other goodies . I lived in Cincinnati and went to school in Redding. Its about a 20 mile trip or so. Daily test and tune was to see how fast I could get it on those beautifull cop free interstates. My persoanl best was 162 MPH . 2.73 gears at 6400 rpm . Woohoo. How I am still alive I don't know.

Yeah, I was coming up on my exit. NO ONE was passing me. The bummer is, I had it to about 105, but by the time I had the digi cam aimed right and took this shot, I had to lift for my exit.
These are some good stories, kep them coming.
SD Trans-Am, you'r kickin your self for gettin rid of that one huh? (dream car)

I once had a 69 shorty step side on the top end floored and barely doing 90. It had the high power 6 cylinder, with the infamous 3 on the tree. I was racing an 81 citation.
My big block longhorn has seen 85, but I always chicken out. The motor is always screaming. It is faster than my brother in laws 65 ford, although he only has a 352.

The SD455 was my first car. My parents divored in 1976 and my dad went out and bought one. typical mid life crisis crap. A year later they realized they were idiots and remarried each other. It got passed along to me in 1979 and I promptly blew the engine requiring a complete rebuild and beefing up. Even with the 2.73 rear end gears that thing would boil the tires as long as I kept on the gas. I jumped it 7 feet in the air, did miles of posi burnouts and more donuts than i can remember on those crappy uniroyals. I did a pretty good sideways parallel parking job too. What was my dad thinking when he gave me that car? It wasnt the quickest car I have ever owned but it sure was the fastest. When it comes time for my midlife crisis I hope I get another one. That is if my wife lets me.
