496 stroker in 68 sbc

What do I need to expect in putting the BB in my truck. It now has a 350 w/Weind roots SC, (144 ci). What about motor mounts, oil pan etc...Do i need solid mounts. Headers?? We will need 1 7/8'' primaries, where do we find these? We are expecting 700 + hp with a Procharger. Thanks for the input ahead. Mike

You'll need big block towers and mounts at least. The Pan from a big block truck should work fine but you may look around and find an aftermarket high capacity. There should be someone chime in on the headers but you may want to go with shorties if you are lowered since full length ones sometimes set below the frame rails.Someone more knowledgeable can probably tell you what they are running.

You are fine using the stock BBC oil pan.
If you are looking for aftermarket parts these mounts work fine.

For headers these Clipsters are a good choice:

Re: 496 stroker in 68 sbc

I got the ECE tubular motor mounts. I have Hooker 2in primaries that took some dimpiling to get to fit. I would get rid of the 12 bolt or get it seriously worked over. Check out my build in my sig for more info/pics.

Re: 496 stroker in 68 sbc

Thanks so much for the input guys. Thats exactly what I was looking for. And yes we are going with a 9" and 4 link air ride. Currently were running a m-21, I was going to get a TKO 600 tremec but not so sure now. Looking into a auto but where can I find one to handle the hp? Thanks, Mike

You can call any of the major trans companies for a 350/400 that can handle 1k... or look for a local shop that may be able to.

Re: 496 stroker in 68 sbc

i have a 68 c-10, i used hooker super comps, 2 inch pri/3.5 inch collectors. cleared everything, used smallblock mounts , frame stands ect, had to dimple the drivers side frame tower. I used a 1/4 inch'ish(lol) shim under the motormount for clearance. No dimpling of the headers. The only issue i have is when i built my 3 inch exhaust i had to use a s bend pipe with a 3 inch offset to clear the crossmember to allow the pipe to pass through in the correct saddle area in the trans crossmember...
