which way? drum shoes
I'm replacing the shoes on my '68, but unfortunately I didn't remember to take pictures before I tore everything apart, now I've got the new shoes and spring kits but I'm not sure which shoe goes where. there one with shorter braking surface and one with longer braking surface, in the back I put the short ones towards the front based on the instructions I used, but I'm not sure if the front is the same way, and I don't have any instructions for the fronts.

If memory serves me correctly, the shoe with the shorter lining always goes towards the front of the vehicle (front and rear), but it's been a while. Hopefully, someone who's worked on them recently will chime in soon.

Dennis has it correct, short shoe always goes towards the front of the vehicle.

factory service manual old school mechanics have handy to do jobs properly
most board vendors sell them at a very cheap price, a great tool for doing the job right the first time
