Questions about a/c stuff on a 74 GMC

Tomorrow im going to be looking at a complete a/c system out of a 74 GMC a buddy of mine is selling.he is taking everything off the firewall,the compressor and hard lines,reciever drier,condensor and all other necessary components for a factory 70's a/c system.what im trying to find out is what is good price to offer for it since he isnt sure how much he wants and i would imagine used a/c stuff cant be worth a whole lot of money.moderators i hope im not violating the rules by asking this im not selling this stuff myself nor am i helping sell this stuff im looking to buy it for my own use and im not sure what kind of offer to make.if it becomes a big deal for this posting on here then go ahead and delete it.

If it's a fully charged operating system I'd go 100 bux, If it's a open/empty non-working system give um a six pack.....

i believe it has been opened up i know its totally off the truck.i figure still it will be cheap a 6 pack is out of the question as he doesnt drink.i hope to have a little more input by the time i go out there today or maybe tomorrow depending on how things play out today.

Well.....A six pack of Coke then, The problem with a used open/off the vehicle system is you don't know the condition of anything. There could be a leak in the evaporator/condenser or the compressor seal, You can't tell if a compressor is going to pump properly or rattle like crazy until it's all mounted and charged. Then there's the control switches/relays/low and high pressure switches and blower motor that's all in question.

Sooo, Even if you have the tools and equipment to vacuum and recharge the system yourself once installed (with a new dryer/oil/o-rings/orifice tube and refrigerant), It could still cost quite a bit only to find faulty parts that need replacing and the vacuum/recharge process done again......
