C-5000

Just wondering if there was any interest in this type of truck.
It is a '79 c-5000. Formerly a flatbed that I chopped the frame and installed a pick-up bed. Original drivetrain except for custom driveshafts. I will put up pictures when I figure out how!

Re: C-5000

It sounds to me like he just wants to see if anyone on here wants to hear how he builds them...

I'd like to know how as we had one like this as a floater truck (herbicide applications) years ago but it had no hoist.

Re: C-5000

I like the medium duty trucks, but you lost me with the new bed!
These things look killer with the correct year beds!

Re: C-5000

Thanks for the feedback! I put on the deep 07 bed for a few reasons. 1) I couldn't find a '79 up here in the rust belt! 2) I got this bed very very cheap. 3) I like the way it lines up to the cab. The medium duty trucks have the skirting underneath and this deeper bed matches that and still lines up on top. I have less than 4500 in the whole thing, including the cost of the original truck, and it is a blast to drive. I retitled it as a pick-up and it qualifies for a historical plate. 34 dollars for 10 years!

Re: C-5000

What did you have to do to re-title it?

Re: C-5000

Take it to a certified scale that can give a total vehicle weight. Then take the scale slip to the DMV with the title. Some of those Semi scales only give by axle weight so you have to investigate them. Then I called the local DMV branch and made sure. Of course it took a while to figure out which DMV employee to go through as this is not a common practice!

Re: C-5000

Turned out the weigh slip only cost $9. 34 for a ten year plate and 15 for the title.

Re: C-5000

That's a great looking truck!!! I was thinking about doing that with a 1 ton cab instead of putting 2 cabs together like the original. Is that what you did? How different was the firewall for mounting up the big truck front end?
