67 C10 Wiper Motor - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hi All.

New here. I have a 67' C10 short box with a seized wiper motor. I'm looking at changing it. Question is how do you get at the linkage under the cowl ? Does the cowl have to be removed ?

Yes, carefully pull off the wiper blades, remove the cowl and you will see the linkage is held on with a snap fastener. You lift the end of the fastener and slide it up and the linkage can come off the wiper motor.

There are three nuts that hold the motor onto the cowl, and you gotta get them from underneath the cowl. It's up and behind the radio. Gonna have to get limber and flexible. You'll need 'em both.

That's great, Thanks. I was hoping not to have to remove the cowl. Afraid of breaking the paint around the screws and bolts, oh well. Limber and flexible ?? It's been a long time since I've had to hang upside down on the seat to get under the dash...

I have removed a couple of them without removing the cowl. I just put some masking tape around the openings above the motor arm and pry the clip off with a screwdriver. Have a magnet handy and when it starts coming off hold the magnet against it so it doesn't go flying. Lift the arms off with a stiff wire with an angle bent on one end. Remove the motor, install the new one and replace the arms and clip. The easiest way to replace the clip is to hold it in place with the magnet and push it on with the screwdriver...

Works for me.

There is a tool that you can get that will lift the wiper arms off of their posts. Sure makes it a lot easier than trying to pry them off without getting them cocked in a bad angle. NAPA has had it.

Dang that is alot of tedious work just to change a wiper motor!!! hahah Sounds like fun though!
