"Black Gold" edition Chevrolets?

Hey fellas, I have been asked several times if my beloved silverado is a BlackGold edition. It wears the factory paint but I have only heard of them but never actually have seen one. There are only 2 other trucks I have seen with the same paint scheme but they had no indication of blackgold and they were both gmc's. Any info is greatly appreciated as it will dictate where i take my build. Would like to know if it was an rpo code or a dealer option etc.

thanks in advance,

Metalshapes

Re: "Black Gold" edition Chevrolets?

We had some "Black Gold"special editions in Alberta back in about 1980 as part of one of our oil booms.

They were black trucks with gold as the secondary color....I will try and find a picture.

As far as I know they were a western Canadian promo.

Re: "Black Gold" edition Chevrolets?

I really don't know. I'm not referring to the Gentleman Jim trucks, I know what those are, I have had 2 of them. I vaguely remember a truck that said blackgold on it and had a derrick right by the fender emblem. I keep getting asked about it but have no knowledge of said package. Just wonder is all. and if I had pics I would have posted them. This is what my truck looks like.

Nice black and gold truck, either way. I wonder if that was a Chevrolet package or a conversion company that made the Black Gold trucks

Re: "Black Gold" edition Chevrolets?

My wife's '80 4wd Silverado was originally black w/gold two-tone (now solid black) but her SPID (which I misplaced somewhere) didn't have any weird promotional RPO codes on it.

Sounds like something similar to the '77-'78 SE TransAm confusion....Many '77-78 TransAms were black with gold trim but that did not make them "Black and Gold Edition" TransAms.

I remember the Datsun 280ZX that was specifically marketed as the "Black Gold Editions" had a ton of commercials and a theme song.

I have a 1980 Chevy 4x4 1/2 ton that was originally black with gold in the center and was told this was an anniversary edition.Maybe this is a black gold truck, but there is no badges on it.I think it was sold new in Alberta.

Re: "Black Gold" edition Chevrolets?

Thank you Specal K for the compliment on my truck. I guess people asking me may have their wires crossed. I have been into chevrolet pick-ups all of my life and have never heard of that package, I'm by no means an expert but consider myself more knowledgeable than most. The only thing I know is that my truck wears a very unique color scheme that you don't see everyday. I will continue my direction of resto/mod and be happy with the result. Thank you to all who responded.

Re: "Black Gold" edition Chevrolets?

ill dig this thread up was looking for pictures of one. dealers in ky made an option called the black gold edition they where gold and black and said black gold edition in cursive writing on them. dodge had one too. in ky black gold is coal. in hazard they have the black gold festival every year. they also offered a s10 like this one used to be gave away every year at the festival. dodge also had one looked like a warlock somewhat.

If you could dig up a picture somewhere that would be great, my search has yielded nothing.

This is the color combo on the Alberta editions

Used to see quite a few as the color combo stood out

I think it was a regional order package for the Alberta oil industry guys

i have dug and dug and cant find them like i said it was eastern ky dealer thing. they prob had one or 2 they would keep on the lot the whole year in hazard. idk if it was a hazard only thing. dad test drove one of the dodges in the 70s. john gourley my art teacher won the 91 s15 one. they had some fullsize c10s in the years 80s also. the same dealer provided them all. at one time they where a dodge dealer then a gmc. so idk if it was limited to them or what.

thats what the bg edition chevys looked like in but it would have black gold ed on the tailgate and door/fender area in rear small in cursive writing. they would have rollbars and gold aftermarket wheels. wagon spokes that are gold. the s15 had cab extender with lights though and the dodge had wood bed racks like a warlock. they quit giving a truck away in the mid 90s at the festival though. i havent seen them on the lot since them. last one i remember was the s15 that gourley won and one like it that set up on a rack at the car lot. inside where real stripped down trucks though. his only had ac as an option.
