Bench race this
Take this engine
http://sdparts.com/details/gm-goodwr...gines/12530282 This engine consists of: ■1986-2000 style block, 1pc rear seal 2 bolt mains -(No mechanical Fuel Pump Provision) ■Nodular Iron Crankshaft ■Powdered Metal Connecting Rods ■Hypereutectic Pistons ■9.4:1 Compression Ratio ■Roller Camshaft- ■Specs- ■Intake Lift- .414" ■Exhaust Lift-.428" ■Intake Duration @.050"- 191 ■Exhaust Duration @ .050-196 ■Lobe Centerline-111 or this one #12530283 (same as above but 4 bolt mains) 2 bolt main is 1999.oo 4 bolt 2099.oo an edel. vortec intake (there are 3 , performer[175.oo], performer rpm[187.oo] and rpm air gap[255.oo]) a holley 3310-3 4160 vac sec 750 and 1.5" headers WHIP'N OUT THE AIR DYNO what intake and carb jetting would work the best on this to start out with.. does an air gap intake make cold starts hell, (think winter) fire away.. it's going in a 71 chevy c-10 long box 2wd with th350 (200r4 later) and 3.50ish gears WHEN running the air dyno, remember this build is a balance of power and mpg.. And before it's said, he will not run efi.. at least not yet. Last edited by stich626; 03-13-2011 at 10:12 PM. |

Re: Bench race this
I would run the performer rpm. Ditch the 3310 for a 600cfm vac secondaries. Throttle response and mileage will suffer using the 750. That cam is pretty tame and is only going to make power up to about 5k rpm. More than likely peak power will be closer to 4500rpm. I prefer the rpm in just about every application over the regular performer. The regular performer is just barely a step above a stock 4bbl intake. The air gap will hurt cold starts a tad and take it longer to warm up especially in real cold places.

Re: Bench race this
That is a new replacement L31 Vortec long block. That is what I would go with if I were buying a crate engine for a mild application. Those are the best bang for the buck IMO. With that said, the L31 Vortec was rated at 255hp in stock form. With a carb you would likely see a little more, maybe 265-70hp?
And I agree with cableguy0, the 3310 is just too big for a 350. The 1850-600cfm would be much better suited. Or most any 600-670 cfm carb for that matter.

Re: Bench race this
An 80457 holley is about 100 bucks cheaper than that. Not to mention grabbing a used carb and throwing a kit in it. You could also run an adapter and use the quad on the rpm.
