My 87 GMC Crew Project

Finally ..... I took some pix of the crew & figured I'd upload them.

What I have is a '87 GMC crew that I bought out of southern cally. It needs a bit of attention, which I will give it, to bring it into the '90's.

It has been lowered with spindles/flip kit & rear bags. It had an AWFULL bed bridge that I cut down & covered.

The front tires are badly dry rotted & will be replaced. The rears are new. One of the fron alcoa's looks like someone took a dremel tool to it - for some reason. I'll dismount the wheel & weld repair the wheel.

The interior has been updated to 90's suburban but I want to go later model..... which I will soon.

Your thoughts??

Re: My 87 GMC Crew Project

Actually yes ...... I'll continue the yellow two tone around to the bed & black bedliner spray. Not sure but I might spray the aluminum bridge cover too.

I'm going to do some interior aluminum too.

The major contruction work is to replace the TBI with carb/intake/HEI .......

That's all right now. I've got a interested party that wants to purchase it already ....

Re: My 87 GMC Crew Project

That would look really good with the bridge cover in matching yellow. All black guts.

Re: My 87 GMC Crew Project

I'm a bit overloaded with projects but the '46 is NOT leaving me!!

I looked high & low & ended up picking it up out in Kansas. Paint is done! Interior will be all aluminum beaded & rivits like a WWII B52 bomber.

Wheels are factory magnesium PANTERA 7" & 8" Campy's. Engine is out of a 90 SS 454 truck. Updated with ....... cab/intake & HEI - basic but reliable.

I'm hoping to finish this year & have it at 2011 Bonneville Salt Flats.

Re: My 87 GMC Crew Project

i have a 47 ford sedan that i would love to put a BBC in but it does not look like enough room in there. did you have to do very many mods to get the engine to fit?

Re: My 87 GMC Crew Project

It's in the process right now. What I have done is remove ALL stock suspension & all the steering & engine cradle that foed installed back in the day. I'm going back with all ChassisWorks coilover/tube control arms & R & P steering .... so no space issues at all. Engine may .... be mounted ala solid motor plate & rear mid plate. A bit of vibration transfer but I'm use to that with my previous pro street cars.
Headers will exit right out of the front fenders ala outlaw 10.5 drag cars. A bit load - not - burns stainless race mufflers.
It'll be very traditional looking but with a twist.

Re: My 87 GMC Crew Project

Paint is done as in, what we see is how it stays? And make sure you let me know when you come through on your way to Bonneville. I am right between I-70 & I-80. You could tow it with the crew cab.

Re: My 87 GMC Crew Project

No towing ....... it'll be a driver.

It should be a super package when done.

I was originally going to use 18"/20" tires but went the traditional "look".

But I can stop in .....

Past projects:

Re: My 87 GMC Crew Project

Sorry to assume the towing. I am all for "build them to drive them" but the distance even made me think trailer. Drive that bad boy!!
Nice toys. I really like the paint on the bike. Instead of flames. Very nice touch.

Re: My 87 GMC Crew Project

Front seats are gray burbs ..... maybe 1990 style with the bdl. arm reasts ...... rear seat is a bench that fold down into a bed (Ahhhhhh-yuk). In between the front seats is a "Custom" console which will be the first thing that'll be yarded out. It houses a cd/radio player & some switches I haven't figure out. I'll also be replacing the billet steering wheel & pedals ..... so early 90's IMO.

It looks like, in its prior life, it may have been a detailed show truck ..... indications are the interior design, painted (yellow) driveshaft & polished alcoas. But I'm not sure. It was bought from a racer in SoCal that updated to a TopKick rig. He'd had it 9 years.

It has a Goodwrench 454 replacement which I've already gathered parts to replace the injector - with carb., HEI, MSD box & dual plain intake. I got a new set of coated hedmans with the deal & will install them + replace the 1 flowmaster 40 with 2 flowmaster 50's. It should run decent when that's done. I don't know injection nor do I want to learn. I am ..... old school.

As I said the yellow will be wrapped around the bed to look like the front. I may distress it but not sure yet.

I've already got 2 interested parties to purchase it when finished. If I can make a few bucks I'll be off to another .....

I would love to have it, even though it is the wrong color, but I'm guessing shipping would cost a small fortune....

Re: My 87 GMC Crew Project

Well joe ...... your already getting the fi parts & I work for a moving company. We ship stuff all the time. As soon as the parts are removed I can box/palletize & get a shipping cost. Then you can make the call!!

It's all in the trash if you don't take it ..... or someone on here. I won't waste my time with evilbay on this stuff.

Re: My 87 GMC Crew Project

My garage is full of equipment so I use the driveway on the bigger vehicle ....... crew included. So ....... weather is KEY. I thought it'd be a bit warmer by now. We're suppose to get winter weather ...... again ....... this weekend. More rain too.

As soon as I can get decent pix I'll post them.
