Opinion on repop doors - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am considering buying some new Tri-Plus doors locally. What do you guys think of them? I know there are horror stories of them not fitting well, but I also hear that Tri-Plus are better than most.

Any thoughts?

I got an older repop Suburban door that was just junk, I wouldnt have passed it off to anyone like was done to me.....I hope that the fit and metal quality has gotten better but you wont know until you open the package....

I would look for original doors....

I bought 2 repop's from Classic ind. Dumbest thing I ever did. They don't fit right in any way. You'll see em on the parts board one day. Yes they'll be described that way.

A door has a lot of contours to it, making it very hard to reproduce accurately. I have NEVER heard a good thing about repop doors. I would try and locate a nice set of used originals.

I almost couldn't give away a set of not very bad doors about a year ago. Needless to say I was pretty thin when I was in sales.

I got a set of 71 doors from the local pick-n-pull that are rust free. One has a big dent and the other a bullet hole, but otherwise they're great.

Used doors are out there, just troll the scrap yards and CL...

I used a Tri-plus door a it fit just fine. The factory doors have something like under oat sprayed inside so they are heavier and close better. If you get some repros, spray some on the inside and you'll be ok.

I tried to use some repops..they were not a good fit..they now hang out in the shed....

I know nothing about Tri Plus, but recently purchased doors from Atheys that were KeyParts and the fit was perfect, truck is in paint shop now and I myself would never deal with trying to repair old doors again. Maybe the two I have are the exception to the rule.

I would leave the bullet hole....just think about all the storys you could tell about that

I have Goodmark doors and they do not fit worth a darn. Course I guess it is possible that it was my bodywork on the cab but I dont think so.

Got mine from Classic Ind. I had to cut (and reweld) the top of the outer window frame where the point is (front post and surround joint ) to provide the propper clearance around door opening, plus the body lines were out of alignment.

The door skin flexes like crazy ( oil cans, I think is the propper term ) It makes it very difficult to block sand because the surface is constantly moving. I had to re-enforce the inner surface to stop the flexing.

The door skin is NOT spot welded to the inner door shell, so I had to provide them so that I could then pull the outer skin into alignment with the cabs lines
(hard to explain)

In other words a major P.I.T.A.

Keyparts and triplus were the same. I just talked to Tim Christian about doors and he said Keyparts had worked on them and they are really good now. Keep in mind that every truck can be slightly different. I've used original doors that didn't fit one cab as good as another....

You must buy the doors labeled Key Parts not Tri-Plus they way more than the Tri-Plus and fit 100 times better!

Yea, poor fitting aftermarket panels are why its taking me so long. I tried to fix the factory doors, but had the same problems with the door skins flexing, plus somebody didn't think to mount the doors on the cab before he welded in the door bottoms. (ain't mentioning no names)

I would be shocked if there was actually more than one factory reproducing these. It probably has more to do with the person assembling the pieces togather.

Another bad experience here. I bought two new repops. One didn't even fit in the hole. After a week of trying to make them work they got tossed and replaced with originals that needed work. They fit like a glove.

They are actually three companys that make these doors. Yes three set of tooling out in the aftermarket world.
