c10 oldsmobile 455 engine

Hey guys does anyone have any advice or info on putting a oldsmobile 455 engine with a sm465 transmission in a 2wd c10. I have a built 455 that I was going to put in my 1970 442 but decided on putting it in my c10 hopefully.

When you go to put the block in the truck you will need to move the engine mounts on the block itself to the forward 2 mounting holes. On the drivers side of the block the front mounting bolt hole also has the powersteering bracket attached there with a thick spacer to help align the belts. with the engine mount there you will need to shave (i.e. grind away) the spacer until the right thickness is otherwise your P.S.pulley's going to be outta whack.

When I installed my 455/TH400 into my old 74 C10, I utilized a shortshaft 2wd TH400 and bolted it to the cross member and lowered the engine down to locate the mounting positions for the frame mounted point of the engine mounts. Pulled the engine/tranny combo back out and drilled the holes for the mounts into the crossmember supports for the mounts. I used a standard chevy 350 lower rad hose to the radiator and the oldsmobile upper hose. As for the headers, The ones I used were made by Doug Thorley. You may want to contact Mondello's (Oldsmobile performance parts GURU's) for their input on the headers and anything else you wanna put into that torque monster of an engine.

In fact,I still have the front end of the frame under my back porch with the engine mounts still in place on it.

Re: c10 oldsmobile 455 engine

I had a 81 5.7 diesel truck with a bb olds swapped in when I got it. That's the parts truck/ parts you need. I blew it up and built a hot 350 and did the swap. So in reverse I got the complete wiring harness out of a gas job ( everything incl batt was on the wrong side) had to change the motor mount mounts the olds ones were way shorter (between the frame and mm's) and then the transmission unless you got the oddball unimount bell housing pattern, then rad hoses, the diesel ones worked, and exhaust p.s. I still have the built th350 with 9" tail I'll never find a home for. It's a real easy swap and some of that you modify
