Another NSS and back up light question

Ok I know the NSS an Back up lights is crazy, but something s simple is always diffuclt.
I have a 56 chevy pick up, rewired with an EZ wireing harness.
I have a basic 350/th400 combo.
I am finishing chaseing grelims and have them all caught.
My question is with the NSS and back up switch.
I have a B&M quicksilver shifter. I think I have both switches installed, but I can start the truck in any gear, an since the truck does not have orignal back up lights. I installed regular white lights in the rear.
Once the truck is started the back up lights stay on.
I'm pretty sure I have all the correct wires in place, just not in the right order.
Later I will post pics of the set up.
but should it matter what switch is where ie top or bottom.
if you have pics please post them explaining which is which.

thanks in advance

what ever wire you have connected needs to be in series with the back up switch..

Re: Another NSS and back up light question

Those are probably micro switches (a pic would help confirm this).

The image below shows a schematic of the switch contacts, you want to make sure both switches are wired COM = power and NO = load (back up lights or starter sol).

Also make sure you are using the right ones (one is NSS and the other backup sw, not interchangeable).

Re: Another NSS and back up light question

Well I was finally able to work on the truck, pulled the carpet an tried everything possible. I moved wires aroound and what not. I can still start the truck on every gear?
As for the back up swith I tried testing for signal with a test light, and nothing. I know I have the wires correct, especially since its a new harnes an everything is labeled every 6 inches. So which is suppose to be wich NSS or back up on top or bottom
Here is a picture of te switch, it is indeed a micro switch but only has two prongs? Do I need a different one.
thanks again

Re: Another NSS and back up light question

The top one should be the reverse switch and the bottom one is the NSS. The micro switches are fine with 2 terminals because you are only using the Common and N.O. terminals anyway. They may just need to be adjusted.

Re: Another NSS and back up light question

Loosen the two screws slightly and move the switches away from the shifter plate. At this point if the actuators are not contacting the plate, both switches should be open and you shouldn't be able to start or have reverse lights in any position, other wise the switches may be bad if the wiring is correct. If the switches test ok you can now move the switches towards the plate so each switch is closed only when lined up with the high spots on the plate as indicated by the arrows.
