Would OEM mirrors have GM part number stamped inside?

I bought a set of mirrors that were advertised as "Original, NOS, Chevrolet/GM Mirrors".

They just arrived yesterday. There is the mirror, the black plastic piece, and little bag of parts.

All the parts and pieces look IDENTICAL to this mirror: http://www dot lmctruck.com/features/csb/CSBMI3.htm (not sure if we can post live links, so change the word "dot" with a real dot, and you can paste into your browser)

I would have expected a GM part number on the mirror, the black plastic piece, and perhaps a sticker on the bag of parts, but there is nothing.

So, I'm trying to figure out of the seller pulled a fast one, trying to pass off reproductions as the real deal. He specifically stated "These are original stainless-steel GM999261/GM996220 replacement side-view mirrors". The seller goes on to say that "we only have a few, and when they are gone, they are gone, we cannot get any more".

Does anyone know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, if NOS factory mirrors would have GM p/n inside? If so, then I'm thinking I need to have a talk with the seller. I don't mind reproductions. I do mind if they were misrepresented, especially when I paid a premium price for what I believed to be NOS GM parts.

Also, does anyone know if, in 1977, the passenger mirrors had the "Objects in Mirror " writing (I'm not sure when that became mandatory on vehicles). It's not on my new mirror, but I'm not sure if that should be a point of contention.

Thx.

Re: Would OEM mirrors have GM part number stamped inside?

They would not have a GM part # on them from the best I can tell looking at ones I have here. Only real difference I can see between the old OE's and the new reproductions is the color of the base that actually bolts to the truck. My old OE's are white in color for their base and the reproductions are black. The base is the part the bolts actually go through and then gets covered up by the aluminum cover.

And yes to the Objects In Mirror etching. Most reproductions it is difficult to get an actual correctly curved right side mirror for the passenger side. But for our trucks they are readily available.
